Patient Experiences

NeuroHealth uses a state of the art FDA approved, NeuroStar TMS chair.  TMS stands for Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and it targets key areas of the brain that are underactive in people with depression. It is not ECT (electroconvulsive therapy). While the exact cause of depression is not known, the leading scientific theory is that it is caused by an imbalance of the brain’s neurotransmitters, which are chemical messengers that send signals between brain cells.

During a NeuroStar treatment session, a magnet similar in strength to that  used in a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine is used to stimulate nerve cells in the area of the brain thought to control mood. These magnetic pulses may have a positive effect on the brain’s neurotransmitter levels, making long-term remission possible.

Does it work?

For people who have not found relief from antidepressants, NeuroStar is a safe, proven, and FDA approved alternative treatment for depression without the side effects of medication.  Over 4.8 million NeuroStar Advanced TMS treatments have been performed on over 134,000 patients.

Does it hurt?

With medication, many patients experience side effects, increasing the chance that they will stop taking them. Side effects with TMS are rare.  The most common side effects for NeuroStar TMS reported during clinical trials were headache and scalp discomfort —generally mild to moderate—occurring less frequently after the first week of treatment.

BrainMapping / Neurofeedback

What If You Could See How Your Brain Is Functioning?

You can see it happen, in 3D, Live and in our clinic. Neurofeedback is a non-invasive method of direct brain function training.  It is a process that enables an individual to learn how to change physiological activity for the purposes of improving health and performance. Neurofeedback uses precise instruments to measure physiological activity such as brainwaves, heart function, breathing, muscle activity, and skin temperature. These instruments rapidly and accurately feed back information to the user.

The presentation of this information - often in conjunction with changes in thinking, emotions, and behavior - supports desired physiological changes. Over time, these changes can endure without continued use of an instrument.

How Does Neurofeedback Help?

Because Neurofeedback is involved in helping the nervous system regulate itself, it can be used with patients of all ages with a wide range of concerns. For many patients, their brains have become stuck in a rigid pattern of response. With Neurofeedback, we can help the brain to become more flexible and efficient, allowing you to be better able to adapt to challenges in the future.

Patients that might otherwise avoid traditional forms of therapy are often drawn to Neurofeedback. Many patients also appreciate the fact that they are active participants in the training. They value the opportunity to see how their brain is responding in each moment and feel a sense of ownership in the change process.
